A truly great lesson, I will remember for the rest of my life, from a slightly odd lecturer I once had.
The smartest way to design the placement of footpaths through a campus, park, or anywhere for that matter, is to not do anything at all. You don’t try to guess where people will most likely be walking, you simply wait for sufficient time to past before humans wear trails into the landscape.
Now you may think “ah dah, that’s obvious”, but I find it a beautiful concept never-the-less.
