How to prevent online fraud
Imagine if we could create a massive database of hashes (with a common salt to reduce Google-attacks) of:
- a customer’s credit card LINKED TO
- a customer’s email address, or a customer’s delivery address.
It would be the perfect API. That way, when an online shop receives an order, it can easily, and anonymously verify whether this email/address is legit.
Banks are in a perfect position to create this database. Consumers could register all possible combinations via a bank’s website, thereby reducing false negatives.
But… there’s no reason why such a database couldn’t be crowd-sourced.
